From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Humans commonly refers to the species Homo sapiens (Latin: "wise man" or "knowing man"), the only extant member of the Homo genus of bipedal primates in Hominidae, the great ape family. However, in some cases the term is used to refer to any member of the genus Homo. Humans have a highly developed brain, capable of abstract reasoning, language, introspection, and problem solving. This mental capability, combined with an erect body carriage that frees the hands for manipulating objects, has allowed humans to make far greater use of tools than any other species. Mitochondrial DNA and fossil evidence indicates that modern humans originated in Africa about 200,000 years ago. Humans are widespread in every continent except Antarctica, with a total population of 6.8 billion as of November 2009. Like most higher primates, humans are social by nature. However, humans are uniquely adept at utilizing systems of communication for self-expression, the exchange of ideas, and organization. Humans create complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups, from families to nations. Social interactions between humans have established an extremely wide variety of values, social norms, and rituals, which together form the basis of human society. Humans are noted for their desire to understand and influence their environment, seeking to explain and manipulate natural phenomena through science, philosophy, mythology and religion. This natural curiosity has led to the development of advanced tools and skills, which are passed down culturally; humans are the only species known to build fires, cook their food, clothe themselves, and use numerous other technologies. Archaeologists unearthed a human skull with a small dried fragment of the scalp still attached. They extracted a tiny amount of DNA from the scalp tissue. How could they obtain sufficient DNA for an analysis of the ancient human's genes? Subject the DNA to restriction enzymes. Use a nucleic acid probe. Subject the specimen to amniocentesis. Subject the DNA to electrophoresis. Use the polymerase chain reaction. Asked by HS - Mon Jun 15 17:26:31 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. They could re-hydrate the DNA then subject it to gel electrophoresis. Answered by Thenotknower - Mon Jun 15 17:30:51 2009 What significant changes have occurred in human body since the last 2000 years? Q. Even if we assume that 50-60 human generations have passed since 0 A.D.; what significant changes have occurred in the human body (if any) since then? And what is the percentage of brain usage between the two ages by an average human being? Asked by eramitv - Sat Jan 3 05:38:19 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't know percentages, but I can say we might use more brain power and I guess because of all the preservatives that is in our processes foods these days, when our bodies die we look better when were dead. Plus because our waters are so contaminated with various chemicals and what not apparently there is alot of estrogen in our water system, that can actually adjust the sex of a baby when a woman is pregnant, to female, or should I say maybe a boy who is more femanine...these mutations are strictly our own doing. Plus Micheal Jackson has gone from a black man to a white man that is definately significant. Answered by Jupiter M - Sat Jan 3 06:13:32 2009 Would a human clone be exactly the same as the person who provided the genetic material?
Q. A clone is a genetic replica. Identical twins are naturally occurring clones. IF it was acceptable, to clone a human for example, to replace a loved one who has died, would the new individual be exactly like the original person who provided the genetic material? Provide a reason for your answer. Asked by xxbeautifulmassacrexx - Sun Apr 12 22:46:52 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. yes, because in cloning, two people dont have sex, which is what mixes the DNA, to make a unique baby. in cloning, the DNA is the exact same as the person who is being cloned because there is no mixing invovled. i dont know exactly how they would do it, but from my understanding, it would be the exact same. However, i imagine environmental changes would be a factor as the clone grew up, and they might not be the exact same as the original in that sense.
