Welcome to ParksAndWildlife.com! ParksAndWildlife.com is a highly categorized in-depth informational resource for all terms related to Parks, Wildlife, National Parks and Monuments. About us.

A national park is a reserve of natural or semi-natural land, declared or owned by a government, that is restricted from most development and is set aside for human recreation and environmental protection. While ideas for national parks had been suggested previously, the first such park, Yellowstone National Park, was established in 1872 by the United States. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined National Parks as its category II type of protected areas. The largest national park in the world meeting the IUCN definition is the Northeast Greenland National Park, which was established in 1974. According to the IUCN, there are about 7000 national parks worldwide (2010 figure).

Why is the wildlife at national parks not afraid of people the way city wildlife is?
Q. In places like Yosemite or Yellowstone, you can get within a couple of feet of a squirrel or chipmunk and they won't run away, but in a park, they scamper off fast if you get anywhere near them. Why is that?
Asked by Vangorn2000 - Fri Jun 18 14:49:54 2010 - Conservation - 2 Answers - Comments

A. People go to Yosemite just to see the animals and treat them with utmost respect, so the animals have never had to view them as a potential danger. In my town, however, the deer are tame as heck too, unlike yours. I can lay on the horn forever waiting for the fat doe to get out of my way. It's necessary sometimes to give her just a little nudge with the bumper so I can finally get home. But hey, be careful of the wildlife that isn't afraid of you. Last time I was in Yosemite, they were warning everyone because a little boy had been feeding the deer with his parents until a buck trampled him to death, clear out of nowhere. They're still wild. They're just wondering if you're going to feed them or what.

How does canada protect wildlife parks?
Q. i'm doing an assignment on how canada protects the Canadian Rocky Mountains National Parks. But i have a hard time finding the facts. can anyone help and tell me in what ways canada protects their national wildlife parks in a paragraph or a few notes?

A. You could try calling a park and ask to speak to the superintendant- this works provincially. In Ontario, Donna Cainsfield is the Minister of Natural Resources. She is a VERY influential knowledgeable person who is ALWAYS happy to help. If you go onto the Ministry of Natural Resources Ontario home page, you can ask Donna Cainsfield a question directly. She may not have an answer for you with regards to the Rocky Mountain National Parks but she can direct you to sources. To try to make this short, Parks have different classifications which make each one unique with regards to ecological sustainability. You can go onto Parks Canada Website, or contact directly with questions to: Parks Canada National Office 25-7-N Eddy Street Gatineau,… [cont.]
